How Are You Celebrating Your Sensual Self This Month?

Welcome back to Celebrating Your Sensual Self. Week one is officially over. If this is your first visit to May’s Self-Pleasure Challenge, welcome to week two, May 7-13.

We started last week with information about setting out May’s Pleasure Event Challenge, the ways to maximize your pleasure challenge, and outlining what the challenge is about.

Do you know how Masturbation – Self-Pleasure month started?

In 1994, when Dr. Jocelyn Elders was Surgeon General, she stated at a UN meeting that masturbation was normal and should be taught. She was fired from her job, and Carol Queen of Good Vibrations, decided to mark May as Masturbation Month, now an international event. It is a way to focus on self-care and wellness, keep the conversation going, and shine a light on a healthy practice.

Most folks, especially women, find it hard to set time aside for themselves, especially their sexual selves. Creating a challenge lets us know that others are joining in and that we are not alone. This may be the most challenging obstacle to overcome.

Here are mantras. I am important. I can act on that knowledge. Sex is essential, and I can give time to it for myself.

Our time is limited, but things can change positively when folks take time for themselves.

There Are Results for Celebrating Your Sensual Self

Does it get any better when you know you’ve created something that is helping someone? I got goosebumps and am so honored and happy to see a positive result.

After having a couple of strokes and the necessity of learning of the self all over again, I can definitely say this has been one of the best tools towards rediscovering my sensuality and sexual self.”

Week Two for Your Sensual Self

Pause and Assess Week One. Get your takeaways. This is the mental part of becoming your own best student of your sexual self. Assess your work holistically with your thoughts, feelings, motivations, and body response. When you do, you are in better command of yourself.

Reflect. What did you learn? What did you like? What might you share with a partner?

How was your exploration of space? What do you want to add? What do you want to take away? Do you want a new space?

Did you get any surprises? Did new information come to light? Did you write it down so you can check it out again?

Did you share this challenge with a friend? It’s never too late to join in. We are talking about the rest of your life. Begin when you are called to start.

New Cards, New Energy for Week Two.

The challenge cards this week are different. We move into Tarot with the Sex Positive Tarot Deck. Their structure may be different, but the themes stay the same.

Many people use Tarot to gain wisdom through a layout of cards. This deck has a sexuality focus. I selected cards that focus on pleasure. Use them for insights on your Self-Pleasure challenge. If you have a routine Tarot practice, you can incorporate them into your specific system.

Here are this week’s cards: 4 of Pleasure-Hands, XX Desire, I Sex Toys, V Sex Education, 6 of Pleasure-Clitoris, XVI Orgasm, and VIII Masturbation. Follow along on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

To Conclude

The self-pleasure challenge celebrated during May encourages people to focus on their sexual self-care and wellness. The challenge was started in 1994 by Carol Queen of Good Vibrations after Dr. Joycelyn Elders, the Surgeon General, was fired for making a statement about masturbation.

When you set time aside for self-pleasure, you acknowledge you’re important and can feel less alone in your journey by participating in a challenge.

I encourage you to prioritize your sexual self-care and use this week’s tools for discovery. Take good notes.

If you find the challenge helpful, please share it with your friend.

[…] Empowering self-pleasure can have unintended consequences. If you took the time to focus on the challenge, perhaps you discovered new delights. If it was difficult to move through the challenge, maybe it highlighted a dilemma. Either way-you got new information that you can act on in the future. Even though we are halfway through the challenge, you can still catch up on the process with the first-week post and the second-week post. […]
