Onstage or Backstage Simple Reasons I Lead with My Big Heart
Friday can be a weird day in a writer’s life. It’s catch-up from the week. Organizing. Listening to pressure washers, blowers, and garbage trucks. That’s my Friday anyway. I get focused! But this week it also reminded me why I lead with a big heart.
Most of you know Friday is a social media day for noting #FriendFriday #FollowFriday #FF. My Sister in Smut, Rachel Woe sent out the coolest tweet this morning. You can read it here with replies.
Her sentiment is huge. “Y’all make the eroticaverse a better, sexier place with your words and wisdom.” Yes, better. Yes, sexier. But it was the word wisdom that caused me to stumble. Not because I don’t believe we have wisdom. Oh my, we do. But because the Sisters in Smut are open to giving and receiving it.
The Stages of Our Lives.
Most folks don’t see behind the curtain of our lives, you know, backstage. You see us on our author platforms, sporting our brands and books. But this Friday morning for whatever reason, a specific memory and visual came to mind from the Play, Noises Off. I saw this play in Tanglewood one summer years ago, and it became an instant favorite. The show celebrates a story within a story.
Isn’t that what lives are about?
We run onto the public stage doing our author business then off stage to our author lives, other work lives, our family lives, and our other adventures. But let me tell you, we will stop in a moment’s notice to help one another with a specific concern or question. That happened at 10:30 pm on Thursday, so it is fresh on my mind. Time-sensitive. Important. A lending hand was needed, and I was there. My heart took the lead.
As this sentiment rolled around in my head Friday morning, Tamara Lush posted an article that was relevant to the discussion. The title caught me. “Most successful women surround themselves with other successful women.” It is a research finding, and it is powerful.
It hit even harder when Rachel Thompson sent out her #WhoDoYouLove Tweet.
Moved to Write.
The combination of all these things moved me to write this post. I connect with feeling, my heart. It is who I am. It will always be that way. So, while my smutty sisters and our 24-hour backstage Twitter DM feed which might make you blush, (and could be fodder for a hot and sexy bestseller,) I want to shout out to other tribes where I am heart connected.
Masturbation Monday, Wicked Wednesday, Flash Friday, Wicked Pens, Book Marketing Chat, Coffee Crew, Smut Marathon, Storyin12, 1linewed, Sex Talk Tuesday, and Amelia Indie Authors.
What does this all mean? To me, it’s about surrounding yourself with determined people, people who are about moving forward. People who are about making a difference using strength, courage, and gumption. The sexuality world for one needs all the strong backbones it can get. Strong backbones that sit behind a good heart.
But sexuality is just one part. All the people we meet respond to heart connection. Send those silly gifs. Make those motivation posts. Locate those inspirational quotes. We all can use some goodness, kindness, and to be acknowledged for being an essential presence in someone’s world. Be thankful and kind. It goes a long way.
Go. Make a Connection.
It’s Monday, so go out and connect with someone who means something to you. If they provided you with wise words, and if their extra-special-self restores your world, tell them. What better thing could we have going on for a Monday?
It was a Thursday/Friday thing. Now it’s a Monday thing.
I love you❤️❤️🥰🥰
I don’t care what day it is, I love my writing crew to the moon and back. Thanks for being such a beautiful part of it!
Ah, thanks, A. I love you, too! xo D.
