Meet Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Vol 4 Contributor, Eliza David
A year ago, I celebrated the release of Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 3 and my story contribution, Infused Leather. I would not have guessed that it would be selected as a semi-finalist in the 2018 Florida Writers Association Royal Palm Literary Awards. It was such an exciting year for which I am grateful.
I am delighted to talk about the next volume. Starting today I will share a couple of the wonderful authors who are in Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Volume 4. I wish the editor, Rachel Kramer Bussel, and all the authors much success in the latest edition.
Let me introduce you to Eliza David. She may be one of the hardest working authors I know. I’m not sure I could keep pace with her life because she has so many great things going on. Check out the information I learned about her. At the bottom of the page, you’ll find all the links to connect with her.
How do you describe yourself and your writing to readers?
I often say I’m made of three ingredients: grit, wit, and tits. That’s truly me in a nutshell and that’s about what you can expect from any of my eleven novels and various short stories.
What was your path to becoming a writer?
My writing path began like a lot of my fellow writers – as an avid and insatiable reader. I wrote my first piece when I was 13 – a fanfic with my childhood bestie about Boyz II Men and Jodeci. We were a couple of hornytoad virgins writing about stuff we had ZERO clue about, but it was fun! LOL!
What authors have provided writing inspiration? So many, but Top Five Inspo are Toni Morrison, Erica Jong, Judy Blume, Candace Bushnell, and AliceWalker.
How does it feel to be included in Best Women’s Erotica of the Year, Vol 4?
Unbelievable – definitely a notch in my belt that I never expected. I’ve read the previous three collections edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel and to be selected to be in the fourth installment is just wild to me. I’m thrilled to be in the same anthology of some of my favorite writer baes and to get my words in front of some new eyes!
Tell us about your story.
Protest of Passion is a story about a black woman who moves into a trendy neighborhood that was originally a historical Latinx community. She bumps heads (and uglies) with a female activist who is trying to preserve the cultural roots of the community. It’s a hate-to-lust trope with touches of real-life socio-political struggle like gentrification weaved into the narrative.
Where are you most in touch with your muse?
Oh, in my basement office at about 5:30 am! With a busy household with two full-time working parents and two kids under 12, the only time I have to myself is in the wee hours of the morning when the people I love are fast asleep. My muse comes out to play for a couple of hours before I start my day.
What new exciting projects do you have on the horizon?
I was selected to be a Pitch Wars mentee this year (YAY!). All of my writing time for the remainder of 2018 will be dedicated to rewriting The Lamar St. Jon Experience, a diverse m/m romance about an introverted child star turned A-List celebrity actor who leaves fame at 24 years young – the height of his career – to work on his most important job yet: coming out of the closet and navigating his sexuality in a fame-free world. I’ll also be featured in three upcoming anthologies: Cleis Press’ Erotic Teasers (also edited by the fantabulous Rachel Kramer Bussel), The Dirty 30 Anthology, and in TheWriters Rooms’ A New Adventure.
When you are not writing, what do you do for fun?
I spend a lot of time dabbling in divination. I love all types of metaphysical tools, especially tarot/Oracle cards, crystals, and meditation. My daily practice feeds me spiritually and creatively.
What advice would you give aspiring erotica authors?
Explore diversity in your writing. Go beyond ethnicity, gender, and sexual preferences. Read sex-positive fiction and literature. Learn about the depths of sexuality – your stories will be so much better for the education!
