Dr. J. ---Sexuality Expert
Sexuality became the theme of my work and passion, forty years ago. I dropped out of college because I had no idea what I wanted to study. Needing a job, and by accident, I landed one with a company that sold condoms and sexuality products. I had never heard of Adam and Eve. At the time, it was housed on Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro, N.C. It intrigued me, excited me, and scared me, all at the same time.
Later, I discovered that the company’s owner held a Masters in Public Health, specifically in family planning. His business was born out of information gleaned from his masters’ thesis. With this one piece of information, I knew I was in the right place, at the right time. Recognizing it, I seized the moment that launched me toward my B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. college degrees, all focusing on sexuality. After being trained by experts in the field of sexuality and with fantastic job experiences under my belt, I set out on my own.
My sexuality work was threefold. I provided sex therapy, professional consulting and training, and education. For me, providing sexuality education was my favorite work. I offered programs through my practice and in the community. However, my most rewarding moments came in my college classrooms. I championed sex-positive and holistic sexuality education utilizing personal qualities of genuineness, a non-judgmental attitude filled with compassion, and empathy. My biggest supporters are my students. When they learned I planned to retire from college teaching, they said, "Keep going; find another way to keep on sex educating." So I did.
For now, I will blog to add to the genre of erotic short stories.
I am completing my first novel. The working title is Pleasure Buds: A Schooled in Sex Novel. In a nutshell, sex educator/researcher Dr. Indigo Lang lands her dream job to create positive sexuality education in a small conservative Florida town but to win over the community she must form an unexpected alliance that risks her heart with hot pharmaceutical CEO Everett Jordan Lea. Imagine the sexuality sparks that happen here.
I invite you to join me on this writing journey.
